Terms of Use

Effective September 15, 2026

These terms cover the Speech Count app and website ("Speech Count"), operated by Brian Clay. By using Speech Count you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.

The free app

The tally board is free to use with no account. It is provided as-is; we work hard to keep it reliable but can't guarantee it will be error-free or always available.

Speech Count Pro

Speech Count Pro is an optional paid feature that saves each student's sessions, keeps their history, suggests names on the board, exports to CSV, and syncs across your devices when you sign in. It is offered two ways:

  • Lifetime - a one-time purchase that unlocks Speech Count Pro for as long as Speech Count is offered, including features we add to the app in the future. "Lifetime" means the life of the app, not of the purchaser. It does not cover separate services we might offer later that carry their own ongoing cost.
  • Monthly - a subscription billed every month until you cancel. It renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel it in your App Store or Google Play subscription settings, or from the Manage link on the Students page for web purchases.

Prices are shown in the app before you buy and may change for future purchases; a change never affects a Lifetime purchase you've already made. Purchases are processed by Apple, Google, or our web payment provider, and their terms also apply.

Refunds

Purchases made through the App Store are handled by Apple under its refund policy; request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. Google Play purchases follow Google's refund policy; you can also email us. For purchases made on our website, email us and we'll sort it out. Cancelling a subscription stops future charges but doesn't refund the current period.

Your account and data

Signing in is optional and uses only your email address. Your roster is stored on your device and, when you're signed in, in your account so it can sync. You own your data: you can export it as CSV at any time, and you can ask us to delete your account and everything in it. See the Privacy Policy for what we store and why.

You're responsible for the information you enter about students and for complying with your school's or clinic's policies about it. Use initials or nicknames if that's what your policy requires.

If Speech Count is discontinued

If we ever stop offering Speech Count, we will release a final update that removes the Speech Count Pro paywall so everyone keeps a fully working app on their device, and give reasonable notice before turning off sync so you can export your data.

Liability

Speech Count is a counting and record-keeping aid, not a medical or educational assessment tool, and it doesn't replace your professional judgment. To the extent permitted by law we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from its use, and our total liability is limited to what you paid for Speech Count Pro in the previous twelve months.

Changes

We may update these terms; the effective date at the top will change when we do, and material changes will be noted in the app.
